In honor of Black history and the complex journeys that shape our lineage, I am sharing snippets on YouTube from a deeply unexpected and powerful mediumship session. During this reading, I connected with my sitter’s estranged father, leading to a remarkable father-daughter reconciliation—starting with a long-awaited apology and expanding into a rich dialogue about America's past, fatherhood, and identity.

Facing the Past: Civil Rights, Accountability & Reconciliation

What made this session extraordinary was how this father opened up about his political activism and ideals—living in California during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, and later in the Bronx in the early '80s. He reflected on a time when his search for identity and belonging drove him toward radical movements.

Having been abandoned at birth and growing up without a father figure, he explained how that deep-seated abandonment and lack of roots fueled a profound personal rage—aligning with the radical urgency embodied by Malcolm X.

Beyond the historical backdrop, his memories also touched upon the vibrant Black pop culture of the time—from Blaxploitation cinema to the defining music of the period (Pam Grier, Bobby Womack, Michael Jackson...).

Why Knowing Our Family History Matters

This session serves as a potent reminder of the importance of knowing our family history—no matter how painful or complex it might be. Uncovering these roots, and understanding the invisible weights our ancestors carried, is essential to truly making sense of their choices—and breaking the cycles of pain for good.
